World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June every year and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging from environmental issues to marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments, and all celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
The purpose of World Environment Day is to give a human face to environmental issues and to empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.
I have chosen a selection of my photos to showcase some of the charities, organisations, and companies that I work with who have a strong sense of social, environmental, and economic responsibility. Organisations such as Weyerhaeuser as supported by DRAX Group who are managing the most sustainable, versatile resource on earth: forests; DelAgua who have distributed water filters and cook stoves throughout Rwanda; Farm Africa who are working with communities in Africa to have a better understanding of the environment whilst increasing their yield; Sainsbury’s who work closely with farmers so that they can reassure their customers that their food is sourced both ethically and sustainably in order to tackle climate change; Intergen working to generate safe, reliable and sustainable power in the communities in which we operate; YASA motors revolutionary motors working to bring down the global emissions targets; Microsoft who are committed to preserving Earths eco system by creating a planetary computer with an interconnected environmental network of data and tools; and all the architects and designers including CallisonRTKL who are working to create buildings, places and experiences that support communities, economies and the planet.
